Staying at Reef Resort is like visiting friends - who happened to be great chefs - at their private luxury villa on a tropical island in paradise.

The reef appeals to the upmarket tourist clientele which prefer to spend the holidays in unspoiled places but want to enjoy at the same time high quality facilities, comfort and service. Reef Resort is a wonderful, boutique resort located on a tranquil island in beautiful Vava'u. The resort has only four stunning bungalows (fales) each with the most amazing sea views.

Location

Reef Resort is located on a small island called Kapa in the remote South Pacific Vava'u atoll in the Kingdom of Tonga.

The desirable island location is far enough away from Neiafu, Vava'u's main town, to feel like an island hideaway, yet is conveniently close to town and the airport for shopping and transfers. The crystal clear waters provide brilliant snorkeling and one of the best snorkeling spots in Vava'u, the Japanese Gardens, is just off the beach. Whales may also be seen from the resort in the season.

The resort is perfectly located for joining whale watching, fishing, diving and other excursions as the operators are happy to pick you up from the jetty as it is just a small detour for them when going out from Neiafu. Sip a coffee at the resort deck while waiting for the pick-up – a perfect way to start your day.

Vava'u enjoys a tropical climate with average daily temperatures of 29ºC in January and 24ºC in June. The weather is warm and generally sunny throughout the year. November to April, the weather is more humid and thunderstorms are more frequent, but the water is warmer for swimming, there is still excellent visibility for diving, and quieter winds for sailing.
From May to September, southeast trade winds range from 15-25 knots. During the summer months, northeast winds of 10-20 knots are the norm.

The Reef Resort Team

The fantastic food and hospitality experienced at Reef Resort is not a coincidence. Josef and Renate culinary background is from Switzerland and Germany. After working as a chef for many years with leading Hilton Hotels around the world and having their own restaurant in Switzerland with Gault & Millau (one of the most influential French restaurant guides) rating, they decided to sail around the world.

Their extensive cruising took them to Tonga. They quickly felt in love with the place and decided that Tonga was their place and settled on Fafa Island Resort where they stayed for 15 years before taking over Reef Resort.

Getting there

The nearest airport is, Vava'u (VAV), which is about 10 miles away and the total transfer time is 30-40 minutes by car and boat. We are happy to organise your transfer. Please e-mail us at mail@reefresortvavau.com with you flight details.

You will need to connect to a domestic flight in Tongatapu to Vava'u. Chathams Pacific is the only domestic airline operating in Tonga. You can book directly with them on www.chathamspacific.com.

International flights from Australia:

You can also fly via Auckland with Air New Zealand - They have a flight on Mondays departing at 7am. Their returning flights depart on Saturday's at 8.40 pm and Mondays at 11.40am.
